Since about 1998, I’ve been very interested in the little-known genre of beatless ambient music. In its purest form, it contains no rhythms,
no melodies, and no vocals or lyrics. Since most musical genres contain at least one of these elements, beatless ambient music is therefore very special and unusual.
In 2002, I started learning to play the acoustic guitar, and in 2004, I began experimenting with my guitar to create my own beatless ambient music, under the name of
Slowspace. I released my debut album, The Eternal Realm, in July 2005, which you can listen to online for free. I’ve also
recorded three beatless ambient mixes.
In addition, you can listen to four other Slowspace tracks using the player below:

Inspired by the immense power released at the centre of the sun, Solar Core uses multiple layers of heavy drones to create an intense, high-energy blaze of nuclear fusion. Listen on headphones at HIGH volume!
Back in 2000, I made a remix of the drum & bass tune Sly Detector by Psyne, for which I created some deep heavy drones using various software tools. In April 2005, while listening to the remix, I had the idea of reusing the same drones as the basis for an ambient track, and Solar Core is the result. Other elements in the track include the sounds of a roaring, crackling fire, and a computer hard-drive spinning (both heavily processed with reverb filters). If you enjoy tracks such as Justlikeit by AMP, then you’ll probably enjoy this track.
The very first Slowspace track! Light, floating, slowly-progressive ambience with a peaceful seawash background.
This track was created using... a recording of me whistling a single note! The recording was looped, duplicated to form a minor-7th chord, processed with a reverb filter, and finally transposed into different keys to create the complete track. The seawash was added afterwards, and some low rumbling was created electronically to end the track.
Shafts of sunlight filter through the trees and shimmer on the rippling surface of a woodland lake. An early exploration into ambient guitar music.
This is a simple impromptu piece of acoustic guitar improvisation, recorded in one take and processed with reverb, layered over some ambience.
In the majestic void of deep space, the creation of a new planet is a silent and beautiful event. Improvised piano with a rich ambient soundscape from an electric guitar.
This is my first and only track to be created using an electric guitar. Although the slowly evolving chords provided an interesting ambient background, the track seemed to lack something, so I added a layer of piano improvisation, which gave it more focus.
